Symphony to feature Brahms, Beethoven

The Toledo Symphony presents a concert of Brahms, Beethoven, and Henze at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 and 21 in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, 2445 Monroe St. Tickets range from $20 to $47. Information: 419-246-8000.

The University of Toledo's Department of Music presents a free concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 in Doermann Theater, 2801 West Bancroft St., featuring UT's wind ensemble, marching band, symphony orchestra, concert chorale, men's chorus, and saxophone quartet. Information: 419-530-2448.

The Bowling Green State University College of Musical Arts and the Fine Arts Center Galleries present the 27th Voices of New Music and Art Festival on the BGSU campus Oct. 19-21. Music highlights include a free lecture and performance by pianist Frederic Rzewski at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in Bryan Recital Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center; a concert by the Thelma Trio and cellist Madeleine Shapiro at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 in Kobacker Hall, and a concert by BGSU's philharmonia and wind symphony at 8 p.m. Oct. 21 in Kobacker Hall. Tickets to the Kobacker Hall concerts are $5 and $8. Information: 419-372-8171.

The festival's art component will feature New Works, paintings by Michael Arrigo, at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Kennedy Green Room of the Moore Musical Arts Center; MEME.GARDEN, an interactive Internet application by Mary Flanagan with Daniel C. Howe, and Membranes-Margins-Disruptions by Joan Livingston, both at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery of the Fine Arts Center. Pianists Paul and Helen Baumgartner will give a benefit recital at 4 p.m. Oct. 21 in St. Petri Lutheran Church, 3120 South Byrne Rd. A freewill offering will be taken for renovation of space at Salem Lutheran Church. Information: 419-243-2345.

Conductor Kwame Ryan leads the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a concert of works by Mozart, Brahms, and Corigliano, at 8 p.m. Oct. 19, 10:45 a.m. Oct. 20, and

8:30 p.m. Oct. 21, in Orchestra Hall of the Max M. Fisher Music Center, 3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Tickets range from $15 to $69. Information: 313-576-5111.
