Cool jazz soothes a hot summer

The Jazz in the Garden series will celebrate Jon Hendricks' 89th brithday Sept. 9. The Jazz in the Garden series will celebrate Jon Hendricks' 89th brithday Sept. 9.

Just in time for the dog days of summer, relief is in sight with another season of Jazz in the Garden at the Toledo Botanical Garden.

Thankfully, the event will be in the Shade Garden beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday nights starting Thursday night and running through Sept. 9.

Participants can pack a picnic or purchase dinner from City Q Barbecue, and ice cream, soft drinks, and coffee will be available. Those attending should bring a blanket or folding chair.

Here's the lineup of acts:

Thursday night - Kelly Broadway and Her Swinging Seven Piece Band

July 15 - Celebrating Art Tatum - Piano Virtuosos: Claude Black, Eric Dickey and Josh Silver

July 22 - Blues and Mo Blues: VooDoo Libido and The Coosters

July 29 - Ramona Collins

Aug. 5 - Damon Cook is Cookin'

Aug. 12 - Hepcat Revival

Aug. 19 - Jon Barile and Friends

Aug. 26 - 6th Edition

Sept. 2 - Jason Quick Trio with Lisa Lynn

Sept. 9 - Happy 89th Birthday Jon Hendricks!

Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (60 and older) and students, and $5 for Toledo Botanical Garden and Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Society members. Kids 12 and younger are free. Information: 419-241-5299.
