The Toledo Symphony plans to resume its popular outdoor concert series at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater later this summer, officials announced today.
Mercy Music Under the Stars with the Toledo Symphony Concert Band will run for six consecutive Sundays from July 8 through Aug. 12. The 7:30 p.m. concerts are free with first-come, first-serve seating.
“Because the Toledo Symphony’s mission is to meet the musical needs of northwest Ohio, we applaud the financial partnership of our corporate and community sponsors that keeps these lively performances a beloved summer tradition,” Kathleen Carroll, president and chief executive officer of the Toledo Symphony, said in a news release. “Free access to anyone who wants to hear music in such a lovely outdoor setting is a tremendous gift to the community.”
The series, which was not held last year, is being resurrected with support from the headline sponsor, Mercy, and support from The Andersons, the Toledo Community Foundation, Huntington Bank, Taylor Cadillac, and the Toledo Zoo.
TARTA will provide a $1 shuttle to the event from Miracle Mile Shopping Center and Westgate as well as from Sylvania, Maumee, Perrysburg, and Waterville, similar to the Mud Hens’ shuttle.
Last summer, Music Under the Stars was put on hiatus. Symphony officials at the time cited declining attendance and health concerns of Sam Szor, the longtime director of the popular Sunday night concert series. It would have been the 59th season for Mr. Szor.
