Even superheroes have to start somewhere, and the Ida Branch Library on Lewis Avenue seems a good place to start. The library conducted its Superhero Training Camp recently, where youths could test their speed, strength, and agility by taking part in fun activities. Case in point: Travis Post, 5, of Dundee, dressed as Superman, fires a blast of foamy string to fight crime, or at least the doldrums of winter. Aghast at his powers is Kia Edy, 13, of Temperance. Noah Dusseau, 5, of Temperance, looks on from the background.

Samantha Taylor, 7, of Dundee, kicks her way through a stack of concrete blocks (that really are cardboard boxes), just like a grown-up Superman - in this case portrayed by Rob Strimbel of Carleton, Mich. - would. Participanting youths received certificates that they've completed training, and celebrated with super snacks.
