IN MONROE, WOMEN WHO SERVED IN VIETNAM HONORED

Vietnam veterans, from left, Carole Allan, Betty Jean Cannon, and Juanita Shellito unveil a new monument, right, 'Women Who Served,' a 42-inch statue of a woman in combat gear. It is believed to be the first monument honoring female Vietnam veterans outside of Washington. The unveiling was part of a ceremony at Heck Park in Monroe. In the background is a stationary helicopter that had been in the park and is an iconic symbol of the Vietnam war.
