OSU women expected to continue basketball success
CHICAGO - The Ohio State women's basketball team has been named the favorite to win a seventh-straight Big Ten basketball championship this season by a panel of conference coaches and media.
The results of the poll were announced Thursday as the Big Ten's coaches and top players gathered in Chicago to preview the upcoming season.
Ohio State senior Jantel Lavender was named the Big Ten's preseason player of the year in a unanimous vote by the coaches and media.
Lavender, who averaged a double-double last season with 21.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, is the three-time reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, and the choice for the preseason honor a third straight time. Lavender is joined on the preseason All-Big Ten team by Ohio State junior guard Samantha Prahalis.
The Buckeyes, who return all five starters after going 31-5 last season, open the 2010-11 schedule on Nov. 12 by playing Temple in Philadelphia.
