The seventh annual Glass City Beer Fest will take place Friday at the Lucas County Recreation Center with suds from more than 43 micro breweries among 175 different beers available for tasting. The Beer Fest food menu includes grub from Vito's Pizza and Subs and City Barbecue. The festival will run from 7 to 11 p.m. and will include beers from the Great Lakes Brewing Co., Horny Goat Brewing, Magic Hat, Sugar Ridge Brewery, Thirsty Dog, Pyramid Brewing, Maumee Bay Brewing Co., Samuel Adams, and dozens of others. All proceeds will go to ARC of Lucas County and the Northwest Ohio Hemophilia Foundation. Tickets are $30 in advance from The Andersons stores and $35 at the door. Tickets for military personnel, firefighters, and police officers are $25. Each admission ticket will include 12 taste tickets, each good for a 3-ounce sample of a beer. Local comic-book author Dirk Manning will sign copies of his new how-to book, Write or Wrong: A Writer's Guide to Creating Comics, from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Seann's Anime and Comics, 5805 Monroe St. in Sylvania as part of the shop's reopening in a new location. Manning will also have copies of all three of his Nightmare World graphic novels from Image Comics/Shadowline for sale, as well as a limited number of copies of Dia De Los Muertos #1, which features a story written by Manning and illustrated by Riley Rossmo, who was recently named "Comic Artist of the Year" by USA Today. The Toledo Farmers' Market will show its customers how mush they're appreciated with free food. On Saturday, shoppers will be treated to meals from market vendors. Appetizers include tortilla chips and salsa by Willy's Salsa and potato chips and dips by Bortolotti Gourmet. Soups include spicy potato from Jewelry by Dana, vegetable-beef by Sage Organics, and chili with local organic honey from Wines Bee Yard. Main course options include rotisserie chicken by Jentzen Farms and Homestead Soaps, scalloped potatoes by Earth Grrrl, and vegetable medley by Bea's Blends.
