A Toledo man was in critical condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center after he was assaulted by several intruders at his North Toledo apartment complex, witnesses told police.
Dawan Clayborne, 25, of Superior Street, was with his brother and several others in Mr. Clayborne's apartment about 12:30 a.m. yesterday when several men - some carrying shotguns and other weapons - kicked in a back door. Mr. Clayborne began to run, witnesses told police.
The intruders ordered everyone out of the apartment, caught Mr. Clayborne, and beat him before fleeing, police said.
A landlord, Jim Connell, 40, responded to the commotion and was struck with a pipe. He was not hurt seriously, police said.
