City police seek pair suspected of thrashing man outside bar

Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about an incident in which a 50-year-old man was beaten so savagely with a pipe that he might lose a foot.

The beating occurred outside Bogart's Bar, 1402 South Ave., at 1:15 a.m. June 5 when the man was robbed by two men.

One suspect was described as being black, about 23 years old, who was short and thin and goes by the nickname “J.D.” The other man was described as being black, about 25 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds, whose first name is Phil. One or both are believed to drive a dark blue Dodge Durango, possibly a 2000 model year, police said.

The victim was robbed of $30 and struck at least once on the head with the pipe, and repeatedly on his right leg and foot. He was taken to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stopper program at 419-255-1111. Callers will be anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
