Ida Township home hit by lightning, fire

IDA, Mich. - A fire blamed on a lightning strike damaged an Ida Township home early yesterday, fire Chief Ed Wertenberger said.

Ida fire crews were called to the home of Robert and Connie Heikkila, 5550 Secor Rd., about 12:35 a.m. after a neighbor reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the roof.

All the occupants were able to escape without injury, Chief Wertenberger said, but the house sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage.
