Kest court appearance slated on DUI charge

Lucas County Treasurer Ray Kest will appear next week in Sylvania Municipal Court on a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol, Sylvania court officials said.

Court administrators said yesterday that Mr. Kest's attorney, Sheldon Wittenberg, asked for a continuance of his pretrial hearing until 1:30 p.m. Aug. 28. He originally was scheduled to be in court this morning.

Mr. Kest was arrested on I-475 early Sunday for DUI by an Ohio Highway Patrol trooper. The former Toledo city councilman and mayoral candidate was arrested while driving a county vehicle. Mr. Kest has maintained his innocence.
