Female prison guard gets 30 days for sex offense

LIMA, Ohio — A corrections officer at the Lima Correctional Institution has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and to two years of community control for her conviction on a charge of attempted sexual battery, a fourth-degree felony, the Ohio Highway Patrol said yesterday.

Annelise Hopkins, 27, of Lima pleaded guilty in July in Allen County Common Pleas Court and was sentenced Monday.

Investigators said she had an “intimate relationship” with an inmate at the Lima prison. A seven-month investigation began in 2002 and continued this year, said the patrol, which investigates criminal activity on state property.

Sgt. Robin Schmutz, spokes|man for the patrol, was unable to provide details. The Ohio Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation did not return a call seeking more information.

After her release from jail, Hopkins must register for the next 10 years as a sexual predator.
