A Maumee woman who hit and killed an 11-year-old boy with her car on the Anthony Wayne Trail last year pleaded no contest to a lesser offense yesterday and was ordered to pay a $100 fine and court costs.
Renee Jakubowski, 22, of 500 Meadow Springs Rd., pleaded no contest to a minor misdemeanor brake equipment offense in Toledo Municipal Court. The charge was amended from vehicular homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor. Judge Denise Ann Dartt found her guilty and ordered her to pay the fine and court costs, which Ms. Jakubowski did.
Chris Slater, of 245 Eastern Ave., was struck March 14 as he and several friends were crossing South Avenue at the Trail. Police said Ms. Jakubowski allegedly ran a red light and hit the boy, who authorities said was in the road illegally.
