2 indicted in shaking injuries to 7-month-old

A Sylvania Township woman and her boyfriend have been indicted by a Lucas County grand jury for allegedly inflicting injuries over several weeks on the woman's 7-month-old son.

Tim Urbina, 29, and Stephanie Grimes, 19, were each indicted yesterday on two counts of endangering children.

Mr. Urbina, of 4229 Burnham Ave., Toledo, and Ms. Grimes, of 6003 Bonsels Pkwy., were issued summonses to appear in common pleas court for arraignments.

Authorities believe the couple was responsible for injuries the baby sustained last month, including head trauma that was consistent with shaken-baby syndrome.

The baby was taken to Toledo Hospital Feb. 17 after he became unresponsive and convulsive while he was under the care of Mr. Urbina at his parents' home on Colburn Street in South Toledo.

John Weglian, chief of the special units division of the county prosecutor's office, said physicians have determined that the child had been previously injured.

In addition to the head injuries, the baby sustained a broken leg and fractured fingers on both hands, Mr. Weglian said.

A hospital physician contacted Lucas County Children Services.

Rod Brandt, a spokesman for the agency, said the baby was released from the hospital and he was temporarily put into the custody of his father.
