Adrian woman, 50, faces charges of retail fraud

A 50-year-old Adrian woman was arraigned in Lenawee County District Court yesterday on a pair of retail fraud charges.

Catherine Ellis was arrested Tuesday after allegedly shoplifting items valued at up to $1,000 from J.C. Penney and Carlton Cards in Adrian.

According to court documents, Ellis has been convicted of retail fraud or similar charges 11 times in Michigan and other states. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to five years in prison. She is out of jail after posting bond.
