Man indicted in stabbing at Lake Township motel

BOWLING GREEN - A Eufaula, Ala. man charged with stabbing a traveling saleswoman at a Lake Township motel has been indicted by a Wood County grand jury.

Johnny Womack, 49, was indicted on one count each of attempted murder and felonious assault. Mr. Womack, who is in the Wood County jail, is to be arraigned July 26 before Common Pleas Judge Alan Mayberry.

Lake Township police said Mr. Womack stabbed Andrea Whitaker, 23, of New Castle, Del., in the upper chest and at the base of her neck with a chef's knife June 24 at Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge off I-280 on Hanley Road.

Police said they did not know what prompted the stabbing.
