Police warn contractors of thefts at building sites

Eight central Toledo homes under construction have been targeted by criminals who have taken more than $5,600 worth of items since the beginning of March.

Building supplies have been taken from the Douglas Co., which is building about 50 homes in the Elmwood, Fernwood, Fitchland, Foster and Oakwood areas.

Most of the incidents have occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m., although a break-in Wednesday occurred between noon and 12:30 p.m.

Toledo police Detective Perry Waddell encouraged builders to mark their supplies and equipment so they could be identified if they are stolen.
