A 10-year-old Toledo boy was bit on the face by a pit bull yesterday while walking in an alley in the 1300 block of Page Street, authorities said.
Darnell Arrington of 1339 Page was treated last night at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
The bite took away part of young Arrington s upper lip, said John Simon, a deputy county dog warden.
The boy was walking with a friend about 5:30 p.m. when the dog ran up to him and bit him, unprovoked, Mr. Simon said.
The boy then ran home and his parents drove him to the hospital. The dog went into the backyard of a neighbor who locked it up and summoned authorities, Mr. Simon said.
The dog was taken to the county dog pound, where it is to be held for 10 days. If no one claims it by then, the dog will be put down, the deputy dog warden said.
