FOSTORIA - A 31-year-old man was arrested after police chased him in a car over several city streets Saturday, police said.
Demond Cheeks of Fostoria was being held last night in the Fostoria city jail pending the filing of criminal charges.
Police said they saw Mr. Cheeks at 3:17 p.m. on Columbus Avenue driving a vehicle even though his operator's license was under suspension. When officers tried to pull him over, he allegedly took off, driving in excess of 60 mph, at one point nearly colliding with a motorcyclist.
Mr. Cheeks skidded to a halt in a parking lot and, when he got out, he put his car in reverse. The car hit the police cruiser, and he ran a short distance before he was caught. Police said they found Mr. Cheeks carrying a large bag of suspected crack cocaine.
