Lucas County sheriff s deputies yesterday caught a Michigan man inside one of at least four houses he is accused of burglarizing after a Sylvania Township police officer saw him near the house, authorities said.
Gregory L. Yamek, 51, of Southgate, Mich., is to be arraigned today in Sylvania Municipal Court on three counts of burglary and one count each of aggravated burglary and receiving stolen property.
Officer William Hunt was on a special assignment targeting daytime burglaries when he saw a man matching the description provided by a neighbor of a suspect in an earlier break-in.
He called sheriff s deputies to the house in the 7300 block of Dorr Street in Springfield Township. Deputies found the man in a closet, and a handgun taken from inside that house was in his pocket, authorities said.
Three of the burglary counts stem from earlier burglaries in Sylvania Township. Mr. Yamek also provided investigators with information about a recent burglary in Toledo, authorities said.
