Car engulfed in flames after hitting gas pump

A Monroe woman was treated and released at a local hospital after the vehicle she was driving ran into a gas pump at Barney s Convenience Mart, 5821 North Detroit Ave., early yesterday morning.

Toledo police were dispatch ed to the store at about 2:40 a.m. to find a vehicle and gas pump fully engulfed in flames. Kenya K. Thomas and her passengers were treated at the scene. Ms. Thomas herself was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for a head wound, police said.

Authorities later charged her with reckless operation and driving under the influence. Officials estimated the damage at the gas station at $20,000.
