Michigan police charge teen in Milan-area burglary

MILAN, Mich. A 17-year-old youth accused of stealing a handgun during a burglary a week ago in Monroe County in London Township has been arrested by Michigan State Police.

Steven Joseph Deroch, of London Township, who was charged with second-degree home invasion, was arraigned yesterday in Monroe County 1st District Court.

The teen was being held in the county jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.

A township woman found a semi-automatic 9mm handgun in her 16-year-old daughter s bedroom on Tuesday and called police.

Talking to the woman allegedly led police to a suspect in the burglary, troopers said.

The burglary had not been reported and the victim was unaware that his handgun was missing until authorities contacted him, troopers said.
