MONROE - The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has been named recipient of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
The non-matching grant totaling $17,407 will be used to buy equipment and training materials, Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said.
The annual grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice since 1998, is a partnership among federal, state, and local government to create safer communities, with an emphasis on violent crime and serious offenders.
