Panties, bras, and other items were confiscated from a North Toledo home where a man who was shot when two intruders tried to rob him early yesterday was running a clothing and candy store in a residential area, police said.
Police towed the man's Cadillac and found more evidence that led to probable cause searches of other areas of 3029 Chestnut St., where the Topp Dollar Sweet Shop is located, Sgt. Richard Murphy said.
The incident began just after midnight when Ronald Owens, 46, of the Chestnut address, was shot in the forearm with a rifle by one of two men who tried to rob him. Mr. Owens grabbed the barrel of the rifle and struggled with the suspect. The rifle went off and Mr. Owens was shot.
The suspects backed away and Mr. Owens shut the door. He ran to the back of the house and jumped out a rear window. When he thought the suspects had left, he returned, and 911 was called. He was treated at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
The suspects fled on foot on Chestnut toward East Central Avenue, police said.
