Motorist arraigned in east-side police chase

A man who allegedly led police on a chase through East Toledo, during which two officers and five people were hurt, was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Carlos Vindas, Jr., 35, of 1058 Grant St., Martin, is charged with two counts of felonious assault on a police officer, felony fleeing and eluding, receiving stolen property, possession of heroin, and traffic violations. He is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $60,000 bond.

Police approached Mr. Vindas in the Weiler Homes shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle. He fled, injuring an officer as he did.

The chase ended in a three-vehicle accident at Second and Main streets, where five people were hurt. Another officer was injured while arresting Mr. Vindas.
