A fire yesterday afternoon at a South Toledo apartment building extensively damaged a lower-level unit, but was prevented from spreading throughout the 24-unit structure, authorities said.
Firefighters were called to 1345 Oak Hill Ct. about 2:30 p.m. where they found smoke coming from the apartment of Risheen Hood, Battalion Fire Chief Tony Gregory said.
The building was evacuated and nobody was hurt. Food on the stove ignited, causing the fire that did $15,000 damage. The blaze was contained to that apartment, the chief said.
Ms. Hood and her two children are being assisted with temporary housing by the Greater Toledo Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
