Fostoria man being held on kidnapping charges

FOSTORIA - A Fostoria man was being held in the Wood County jail yesterday on charges of kidnapping, fleeing, and eluding following the alleged assault of his girlfriend.

Carla Wreede reported Monday that her boyfriend, Steve Pauley, 38, assaulted her and took her pickup truck. A Fostoria police officer saw the vehicle 10 minutes later on Counthyline Street and tried to stop the driver.

Police say Mr. Pauley turned onto Berkshire Drive, then fled on foot. He was captured about an hour later.

Police Chief John McGuire said Ms. Wreede had scratches, bruises, and cigarette burns and was taken to Fostoria Community Hospital by a friend.
