Man charged in stabbing of Swanton woman

A Swanton woman was stabbed multiple times yesterday during an argument with a 45-year-old man arrested a short time later and charged with the assault near State Rt. 295 and Shaffer Road in western Lucas County, authorities said.

Christie A. Beebe, 43, of 2012 South Berkey-Southern Rd., was in critical condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with stab wounds in her upper chest and shoulder.

Shannon McPherson, 45, of 2170 South Berkey-Southern Rd., No. 165, Swanton, was charged with felonious assault and arraigned in Sylvania Municipal Court. He is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Ms. Beebe was stabbed, possibly with a screwdriver, about 12:30 a.m. while she and Mr. McPherson were in her vehicle, sheriff s deputies said.

She said she was able to flee to a nearby home, and the person who answered the door called 911, sheriff s Lt. Bobby Leist said.

Deputies found Mr. McPherson at his home, where they discovered bloody clothes in his bedroom. He told deputies Ms. Beebe assaulted him and he was defending himself.
