A fire of undetermined origin Saturday night destroyed an abandoned, two-story, wood-frame structure at 2221 Auburn Ave., north of West Bancroft Street, according to the Toledo Fire Department.
The structure was engulfed in flames when the first of about 28 firefighters from five stations arrived about 11:15 p.m.
Firefighters waged a defensive battle against the blaze because the structure was too far gone for them to enter it, fire officials said.
Most firefighters left the scene by about 12:30 a.m. yesterday.
Fire officials officially declared the fire extinguished at 3:39 a.m.
No one was hurt and the building was demolished, officials said.
A damage estimate was not available.
