Man accused of assault on Toledo police officer

A 27-year-old man was arraigned yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on charges related to accusations that he elbowed a Toledo police officer in the face and then wrestled with her before he was arrested.

Torren Johnson of 1712 Milburn Ave. is charged with felony assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and two counts of obstructing official business. He was being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. Mr. Johnson was sitting on a porch chewing a white substance about 1:30 a.m. yesterday when Officer Alanna Whatmore approached him and told him to spit it out, police said.

Mr. Johnson stood up and elbowed Officer Whatmore in the left eye. He then wrestled with the officer and fled toward an alley, jumping over two fences before he was taken into custody, police said.
