Man charged in assault of Ottawa Hills chief

The Ottawa Hills police chief was assaulted Saturday morning while responding to a call for a suicidal man, authorities said.

David Holmes, 25, of 2742 Jodore Ave. is accused of punching police Chief Robert Overmeyer when he and Toledo police responded to his home about

11:30 a.m.

Chief Overmeyer was treated for an injury to his lower lip, Ottawa Hills Mayor Kevin Gilmore said.

Mr. Holmes was charged with felonious assault and was being held in the Lucas County jail after treatment at Toledo Hospital.
