Toledo man dies 12 days after being found on curb

The 56-year-old South Toledo man found last week propped up against a light pole with head injuries died yesterday in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Sherman Smith of 742 Greene St. was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m., said Bob Hannon, a Lucas County coroner s investigator.

An autopsy will be conducted today.

A passing motorist called 911 about 3:30 a.m. June 8 after seeing Mr. Smith at City Park Avenue and Sterling Street being helped by two young men who apparently moved him from the street to the curb.

Police were looking for him a block away and were unable to find him until about 8:30 a.m., when another call provided the correct location.
