North Baltimore man stole scrap metal, police say

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio A North Baltimore man was arrested Sunday after being accused of stealing scrap metal from a vacant house purchased by CSX Transportation for the intermodal rail yard it plans to build.

Rex McCarty, 50, who was charged with theft and aggravated trespassing, was arraigned yesterday in Bowling Green Municipal Court.

He was released on his own recognizance with the condition that he not be on the property of another without permission.

The Wood County Sheriff s Office said a couple keeping an eye on the CSX property on State Rt. 18 noticed the garage door open and found a man inside, as well as items from the house inside his vehicle.

North Baltimore police later found the suspect s vehicle in town, where deputies arrested Mr. McCarty and impounded his vehicle, which contained down spouts, a garage door opener, window screens, and two electric garage door sensors believed to have been taken from the house.
