Monroe County sheriff s department seeks would-be abductor

NEWPORT, Mich. Authorities are looking for a man who attempted to abduct an 8-year-old girl Thursday night from a Frenchtown Township mobile home park near Telegraph Road and I-275.

The man approached the girl about 8:15 p.m. in the Frenchtown Villa Mobile Home Park, enticed her with candy, and grabbed her shirt, Monroe County Sheriff detectives said.

The girl screamed to friends who were playing nearby and the suspect fled to a brown or purple Jeep Wrangler that was parked in the area and drove away. The victim described the suspect as being about 5 feet, 10 inches, slender to medium build, and having short brown hair, goatee, and sideburns. He was also wearing a camouflage baseball hat.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff s office at 734-240-7530.
