OAK HARBOR, Ohio — A Genoa man was in serious condition in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center Saturday night with injuries suffered Friday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crossed the center line of a road in Ottawa County's Harris Township and struck a semi-tractor head on.
Roger Habel, 42, was westbound at a high rate of speed on State Rt. 105 between Oak Harbor and Elmore about 7 p.m. Friday when he apparently lost control on a curve, according to troopers from the Sandusky post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
His vehicle went off the right side of the road, the driver overcorrected, and then the SUV struck the semi, which was eastbound and driven by Robert Overfield, 25, of Port Clinton.
Mr. Overfield was not injured, investigators said.
Mr. Habel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from his vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation.
