Fire at metal recycler causes $150,000 damage
The Thursday fire at a debris pile at a North Toledo metals recycler has been ruled unintentional, authorities said Friday.
One firefighter was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center for heat-related issues, according to the Toledo Fire Department. The victim’s condition was not released.
The fire at OmniSource Corp., 5130 North Detroit Ave., was reported about 2:40 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 11:30 p.m., the department reported.
Damage was estimated at $150,000; the cause had not been determined.
OmniSource collects, processes, and resells scrap metal. The North Toledo facility is a collection yard and a processor of ferrous and nonferrous metals.
