Woman, son improve after I-75 crash

A woman and her son — who were two of six people involved in a fatal crash on I-75 Saturday — are continuing to improve at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Dawn Lerma, 40, and Bryan Davis, 9, are both in fair condition.

Ms. Lerma’s daughter, Nikole Lerma, 15, and family friend Lawrence Moser, 14, are still listed in serious condition.

Christopher Jones, 35, who was driving the wrong way on the highway when his vehicle struck Ms. Lerma’s vehicle, is still in critical condition.

The Lucas County Coroner on Tuesday said Matthew Davis, 37, a passenger in the Lerma vehicle, died of multiple injuries to his head and chest sustained from the crash.

It’s unclear if Mr. Davis was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

All of the people involved are from Toledo.

Authorities have said they think Mr. Jones was driving under the influence of alcohol, although they are waiting on blood test results.

Ms. Lerma was driving a silver 2008 Mitsubishi Galant in the left northbound lane just south of the Phillips Avenue exit ramp at 10:50 p.m. when the vehicle was hit head on by an SUV driven by Mr. Jones, police said.

Charges have not yet been filed against Mr. Jones.
