South Toledo shots hit mother, 4-year-old
A 4-year-old boy shot Friday night at a South Toledo apartment complex was in critical condition at Toledo Hospital on Saturday.
Jashon Veasley and a 34-year-old woman, Sandra Felder, were shot at 10:43 p.m. at Byrneport Apartments at 837 Byrneport Dr. off Airport Highway, according to a Toledo Police Department report.
Ms. Felder was shot once through both legs, while her son was struck in the stomach. Both were taken to Toledo Hospital. Ms. Felder was released by Saturday night, a hospital spokesman said.
The mother and son were shot when a robbery victim tried to flee into their home, according to police reports. Christopher Henry, 28, who also lives in the pair's Byrneport apartment, was approached outside the building by three men. Two of them men wore black sweat suits, while a third, taller man wore a gray hooded sweatshirt.
The men asked Mr. Henry if he knew whether another man lived in the apartment; when he said no, they assaulted him and stole $200 from him. Mr. Henry fled the men, according to police reports, and tried to run into the apartment. The man in the gray sweat shirt pulled out a black semiautomatic pistol and shot at him.
A bullet went through the front door, striking Ms. Felder and her son. A witness saw the three robbers flee through a playground, and shortly after saw a dark-colored minivan speed away.
Both Ms. Felder and her son were taken by life squad to Toledo Hospital. Mr. Henry was later arrested because of the he had several warrants, including two involving drugs.
A neighbor's window was also shot out in the incident.
Police had not named any suspects or made any arrests by Sunday morning. The incident is under investigation.
