Toledo Fire Department responds to a fire near the corner of Dorr and Upton.
The Toledo Fire Department decided to allow an abandoned building on fire in the 1800 block of Dorr Street near Upton Avenue to burn.
The building at 1852 Dorr St. caught fire about 1 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. A cause is still undetermined.
A firefighter from one of four responding engine companies said the roof had collapsed from the massive smoke and flames.
At about 1:30 p.m. the entire building was engulfed in flames and crews were preparing to attack and extinguish the flames.
For several minutes, downtown was not visible from the scene as thick, black smoke billowed from the building.
