Single-car crash kills Ottawa man, 33

OTTAWA, Ohio -- An Ottawa man was killed Saturday morning in a single-car crash on a Putnam County road, Sheriff James Beutler said.

Samuel Verhoff, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle. The crash remains under investigation by the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Mr. Verhoff was traveling south on State Rt. 65 at about 5:20 a.m. when his vehicle went off the west side of the road. Authorities said the vehicle struck an embankment at the intersection of County Road O, causing the car to flip and roll.

Troopers said Mr. Verhoff was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
