Woman slain by gunfire was shot at least 3 times
An 81-year-old woman shot in her central Toledo home Tuesday was struck at least three times.
Lucas County Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey said Fannie Mae Smith was struck in her chest, abdomen, and left arm. Ms. Smith was sitting inside her sunroom watching television when the shots came through a window of her 2264 Fulton St. home at about 12:46 a.m. She died in an area hospital.
Police have not named a suspect or a motive in the slaying, the first homicide of 2012. Family members of Ms. Smith have said they believe her son, Bruce Smith, 60, was the intended target.
