Help sought to locate gas station's robber

BLADE STAFF

Toledo police are asking the public for help in finding a man with a handgun who robbed an East Toledo gas station of an undisclosed amount of money. The Sunoco at Front and Consaul streets was held up at 4:12 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the robber, who wore a black neoprene face mask, threatened to shoot the clerk with a large black handgun if she didn't hand over the money. The robber fled with the money, which the clerk placed in a plastic garbage bag.

A witness who was leaving the store before the holdup told police the robber had propped the door open with some wood before entering. Two other witnesses said the bandit fled between a pair of Dumpsters toward the Birmingham Terrace housing complex.

A loaded 9mm pistol and pair of gloves were recovered nearby, but it is uncertain if they were used in the holdup.

Police said the clerk was unable to offer a detailed description of the robber.
