ASH TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a man Saturday night at Telegraph and Ready roads in Monroe County.

William Walker, 46, of Chesterfield Township and Mark Calvilla, 50, of Detroit had stepped onto Telegraph Road to stop traffic for a group of motorcycles leaving a private parking lot, according to a police report.

A vehicle traveling southbound struck both men, who were wearing all-black clothing, about 8:50 p.m. The men were taken to South Shore Hospital, where Mr. Walker was pronounced dead. Mr. Calvilla was treated for non-fatal injuries.

The occupants of the vehicle were not injured and the driver had not been consuming alcohol, the report said.
