Arson team probes S. Toledo fire

BLADE STAFF

Investigators on Wednesday were to continue a probe of a suspected arson that damaged an unoccupied house in Toledo's Old South End Tuesday, authorities said.

No one was home when fire crews arrived about 12:45 a.m. and saw smoke and flames coming from the rear of a two-story, wood-frame house at 643 Garland Ave. near Field Avenue and the Anthony Wayne Trail.

The fire was listed as suspicious, fire Lt. Larry Armstrong said. Arson investigators were called to the scene; the blaze's exact cause was under investigation, he said. No one was injured, and no damage estimate was available.

The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists Suzan Ayers as the owner of the house, which was built in 1897.
