East Toledo fire ruled arson

BLADE STAFF

The porch of an East Toledo house was damaged by arson early today, authorities said.

There were no injuries, according to the Toledo fire department.

The fire at 1556 Emerson St. near Oakdale Avenue was reported by an occupant about 12:26 a.m., firefighters said.

Fire crews arrived at the scene at 12:34 a.m., by which time the occupant had largely extinguished the flames, Toledo fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld said.

It was believed at the time that someone apparently had thrown a container with flammable fluid on the porch, according to initial reports from the scene. The fire has since been ruled an arson, Lieutenant Hertzfeld said. He would not confirm the initial reports of the cause of the fire, citing an ongoing investigation.

The Lucas County Auditor’s Web site lists Trisha Kreager as the owner of the house. The single-story wood frame house was built in 1960.

The damage estimate is pending.
