Couple accused of beating children indicted
An East Toledo couple allegedly caught on video assaulting their adoptive child were indicted today by a Lucas County grand jury.
Joshua and Courtney Waxler, both 24, of 2355 Seaman St., were each charged with two alternate counts of endangering children, both second-degree felonies. They each face up to eight years in prison if convicted.
Police allege the pair assaulted their 3-year-old child sometime in early or mid February. The assault was reportedly recorded on a cell phone by a relative.
Documents filed in Toledo Municipal Court allege that Mr. Waxler beat his 3 adopted daughter with “an adult-size tennis shoe” on her hands and other parts of her body. An affidavit alleges that Mrs. Waxler slapped the 3-year-old girl across the face and also choked the girl and threw her to the ground.
The girl and her 5-year-old sister, who are relatives of the couple, had been in the Waxlers’ care for about three years.
Both and are being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bonds.
