A solemn honor for police officers

Officer Vince Manera, left, and Capt. George Kral display a glass tile portrait of St. Michael the Archangel created by Lima, Ohio, artist Thomas Cullen. The mosaic, which has about 14,000 pieces of glass, will be the focus of a side altar in the church dedicated to police officers. St. Michael is the patron saint of law enforcement officers. Another side altar in the church is dedicated to St. Florian, patron saint of firefighters. Sunday’s Mass honored police officers, living and fallen, for their service to the community.

The Toledo Police Department’s honor guard leads some of the 400 to 500 worshippers into the Historic Church of St. Patrick in downtown Toledo for the third annual Blue Mass.
