Woman severely burned in fire
A South Toledo woman is in critical condition in a burn unit after she collapsed while trying to escape a fire in her home Friday evening.
Toledo police officers Friday night rescued Elizabeth James, who did not regain consciousness and was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with severe burns, authorities said.
A neighbor called in the fire at 3801 Ben Lomond Court about 8:40 p.m.
The fire was extinguished in 5 minutes, battalion Chief Peter Jaegly said. He estimated the damage at $20,000. Her dog survived, authorities said.
