Early morning fire ruled arson in Old South End

BLADE STAFF

A vacant house fire near City Park Avenue and Anthony Wayne Trail in Toledo's Old South End on Friday has been ruled an arson, authorities said.

There were no injuries, according to the Toledo fire department.

A private ambulance crew that happened to be driving by about 6:21 a.m. saw smoke coming from a house at 618 Greene Street and reported the blaze. Fire crews brought the fire under control by 6:47 a.m., firefighters said.

Arson investigators determined that the fire was started in multiple spots and ruled it as set intentionally. The damage estimate was $15,000. The Lucas County auditor's Web site lists Victor Gaston as the owner of the single-story wood frame house, built in 1887.
