Monroe man crashes motorcycle, dies

MONROE — A Monroe man was killed early today when his motorcycle crashed on a Frenchtown Township road, authorities said.

Leonard C. Werstein, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene on Nadeau Road about a quarter-mile west of War Road, the Monroe County Sheriff’s office reported.

Mr. Werstein was eastbound when he went off the right side of a curve and crashed into a ditch at about 2:48 a.m., deputies said. He was not wearing a helmet, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation later Saturday.
